„Bloß nicht selbst denken“ – mit Prof. Dr. Maximilian Ruppert

20. Apr 20221 Kommentar

Hallo, Professor Dr. Maximilian Ruppert.

Prof. Maximilian Ruppert: Hallo, Frau Preradovic.

Prof. Maximilian Ruppert: Genau.

Prof. Maximilian Ruppert: Also ich habe ja keine Kritik geübt.

Darauf will ich hinaus.

Prof. Maximilian Ruppert: Also man darf durchaus abweichen.

Milena Preradovic: Man darf das natürlich. Man muss nur die Konsequenzen tragen.

Prof. Maximilian Ruppert: Tragen. Logisch.

Ja.

Milena Preradovic: Wer war das? BMW oder was?

Also Motor, wenn man überlegt. Karl Benz.

Also da habe ich Forschung erleben dürfen.

Prof. Maximilian Ruppert: Ja, vom Prinzip läuft’s genau so.

Was tun”.

Prof. Maximilian Ruppert: Genau. Was ist denn Wissenschaft?

Prof. Maximilian Ruppert: Also zunächst mal eine unglaubliche Breite an verschiedenen Fächern.

Da muss ich überlegen was macht mir denn Spaß?

Prof. Maximilian Ruppert: Ja genau.

Was kostet das übrigens genau?

Milena Preradovic: Super spannend Prof Ruppert.

Interview with Prof. Maximilian Ruppert (english)

Milena Preradovic: In the last two years, we have learned that anyone in an important position who represents a different corona opinion than the one that applies quickly comes under pressure and, in case of doubt, is also out of a job. Universities are no exception. Of all places, where science is supposed to emerge from discourse, discourse no longer seems to be very desirable. In Leipzig, a doctor’s teaching license was revoked because he did not want to vaccinate. In Vienna, the medical university expelled the critical physician Professor Sönnichsen, to name just two. If dissenting opinions are no longer valid at universities, what does that mean for free research, free teaching and free thinking? My guest has made relevant experiences in this regard and founded the Academy of Thinkers. Now with point Preradovic. Hello, Professor Dr. Maximilian Ruppert.

Prof. Maximilian Ruppert: Hello, Ms. Preradovic.

Milena Preradovic: Let me introduce you briefly. You are a graduate engineer and professor of industrial engineering at Ingolstadt University of Technology. You studied in Munich and earned your doctorate at the University of the German Armed Forces. You also taught in Munich. You also worked in industry and managed the company CSI Entwicklungs-Technik as an entrepreneur for twelve years. Now you have co-founded the Academy of Thinkers with the aim of inspiring people to think for themselves. Before we talk about your academy, you said in the lecture hall at the start of your winter semester now in Ingolstadt that you wouldn’t accept students being discriminated against because of their status. Beating up on a minority is indecent, you said. There is also a video of this on YouTube. How did the university react?

Prof. Maximilian Ruppert: Yes, first of all, the university consists of my students first and foremost, that’s who I’m here for. But it also consists of colleagues and an authority in the background. And the difference can only be underlined, as I have now also presented, that there is always different evidence in industrial engineering, stakeholders. First of all, there was yes that a reaction of the students, as we say, before. I made this statement, that’s right, but it didn’t come from me alone, it was just a pain that my students made known to me. So I would say that they were really in panic, in turmoil, they were desperate, I received calls, I also received visits at the institute and I received many emails where I felt this desperation. And that’s why I also said once again quite emphatically that, from my point of view, this must always remain a free decision. And I also said, there is also a recording about this, which went somewhat viral on YouTube, relatively, where I also said again that many decisions that are really important in life, also in industry, you will notice as an industrial engineer later, are demonstrably made from the gut and it is therefore I always say, it’s not so bad if you listen a bit to your gut. That is also my personal experience and my decision to say so. It was definitely made on the basis of my gut feeling. I had a good gut feeling about expressing myself in this way. And I still have a good gut feeling about everything that happened afterwards.

Milena Preradovic: Well, the question was, of course, what happened afterwards?

Prof. Maximilian Ruppert: Exactly. There was then another action where we were asked as a study program unfortunately at that time I was still one for industrial engineering, that we recommend the Johnson vaccine as a revenge senate for the foreign students. Especially the ones that are not from Europe, because they would only need one chap and then they would become sort of free and they could study with us. And I did not join that campaign. I wrote a nice mail to a small mailing list, which was then distributed quite widely. Obviously, where I said, I’m just an engineer. You introduced me as an engineer, scientist, that’s what I am, I stand by that, I can say something about that, but I’m ten, I’m out, I just don’t know myself well enough to be able to make a recommendation. I also don’t want to be put in the responsibility of recommending a drug here. Those were the two things and then I got a phone call and a few days later, or it was a phone call. And in this phone call I was then told that I was supposedly an opponent of vaccination or even still unvaccinated. End of quote And that’s why they don’t like to see me in the college anymore. Most of all, I was not supposed to come to the faculty council in presence anymore. I didn’t do that anymore even then because if I get disinvited, I’m not that rude and then I go in anyway.

Milena Preradovic: That means that now, even though you are a full professor there, you are not allowed to teach in the lecture hall anymore?

Prof. Maximilian Ruppert: No, so I’m already allowed to teach, I’m allowed to do that. So, I haven’t heard anything to the contrary until today. It’s just that at that time the wish arose that I, as someone who was supposedly still unvaccinated, should not appear in the presence of the faculty council. So, that was the premise, and I also complied with that in a very well-behaved way.

Milena Preradovic: You said earlier, when you were a study program director, you are you now no longer one and does that have to do with these incidents?

Prof. Maximilian Ruppert: Well, I can answer the first question with a yes. I am no longer a study program director, removed with immediate effect by e-mail on January 12 of this year.

Milena Preradovic: With the reason?

Prof. Maximilian Ruppert: The reason is quite official That can be done if the trust relationship is disturbed. But I don’t know any more. I haven’t had a conversation yet, neither from the dean nor from the university management on this topic. I don’t know the real background. The second part of your question I can only assume that there might be a connection. However, this is conjecture on my part and a free expression of opinion that I am making known here.

Milena Preradovic: But you already have the impression that criticism of the Corona measures or the Corona policy is not necessarily welcome at your university?

Prof. Maximilian Ruppert: Well, I didn’t criticize anything. I just expressed my opinion and said that the free decision is important, that we have no criticism of measures.

Milena Preradovic: That is also not really desired. That’s what I’m trying to get at.

Prof. Maximilian Ruppert: Free speech is possible, but it is then not desired if it does not comply with the guidelines. Exactly.

Milena Preradovic: Is your university an isolated case?

Prof. Maximilian Ruppert: I have to say, I am perhaps quite clearly said, I am very grateful that this has happened, because since the eight October, where just this phone call was, I have then become active. Some say I woke up. I don’t know, I wasn’t asleep before. It’s not like that now either. But I did become active, I networked even more than usual. I have also been well networked, know very many from the universities, from my own university, from others. And the stories are piling up. And they are sometimes really so that I have to ask 2,3,4 times, because at first I can not believe what is happening to yes to consequences of free speech. Let’s put it this way: It is really partly hanebüchen.

Milena Preradovic: Does that mean that colleagues, i.e. other professors at other universities, have also suffered the same fate as you?

Prof. Maximilian Ruppert: Quite similar. So the stories are piling up. Not a week goes by where I don’t hear a story like that. And yes, that’s the way it is, and that’s the only way it can be.

Milena Preradovic: Was it the case before Corona that you were not allowed to have a different opinion on certain topics?

Prof. Maximilian Ruppert: Well, you are definitely allowed to dissent.

Milena Preradovic: Of course you can. You just have to bear the consequences.

Prof. Maximilian Ruppert: Bear them. That’s logical. We are in the freest country that ever existed, here on earth or on the spot where we are now. But there are consequences. Sure, and the consequences are getting nastier and nastier, more and more brutal. My impression is, and it is actually getting stronger and stronger, not only since Corona. It was already like that before, you can’t really keep quiet about certain topics anymore. For example, there is a situation where someone sits at the table and looks at everyone very loudly and says, “We need immigration. And then he looks like this, and then you have to make sure that you’re maybe eating something or drinking something and are distracted. Because if you then don’t clap quasi actively and “yes, we need and without them our country is broken”. And so on. Then you are already suspicious. That is my impression. But as I said, that’s a feeling of mine. Again, a gut feeling that I express here. But when I tell someone this in a low whisper, because it’s no longer really good out loud, it doesn’t go down so well, then I actually always hear in nine out of ten cases, “Yes, damn it, you’re right, I feel the same way at my university, at my institution, in my company. No matter where you listen, that’s really actually how it is, so that’s how it’s perceived. I’m not alone in that.

Milena Preradovic: Since when has that been the case? I’ve always thought that universities were the stronghold of free thought and free teaching and research. I’m probably naive in that respect. Since when has that no longer been the case?

Prof. Maximilian Ruppert: Ms. Preradovic, I can’t pin it down to a date. It’s incredibly difficult to say now that there was this prelude or this, this event and then suddenly it was like this. It happened little by little. It’s also a kind of spiral that goes down, which expresses this free expression of opinion or the consequences of the same. And I notice that people look at you stupid if you say something weird. Maybe that was the case 20 or 30 years ago, but there were no consequences. Then, in the next step, you might have let it go, out of shame, to say anything that comes across as weird. Then less was said, which arrives obliquely, I encapsulate it times in such a way yes. As a result, the compliant voices became louder and louder. As they became louder and louder, fewer and fewer dared to speak out again. And in the meantime, it’s already the case that certain people don’t show up at certain places at all anymore, don’t go there at all. They’re simply not there anymore, because they say: “I’m saying the wrong thing anyway” or “I don’t even want to listen to this total nonsense that you’re somehow given there. That’s not what I mean by these Corona measures. And that’s actually to many topics, actually to almost all of them, that go a little bit outside of pure professionalism, at the technical facility especially.

Milena Preradovic: Do you have the impression that universities follow politics, government politics?

Prof. Maximilian Ruppert: Yes, but 100% for God’s sake! After all, we are a government institution. Partly, I have the feeling that the further down this goes, the more they add another 20 %. I don’t know. I haven’t seen any emails from the State Ministry, but I get to see the next level, so to speak, from the university management. And then the next level down, from the dean’s office and then from the colleagues. And I don’t have the feeling that this is similar to a photocopier, where you put a copy on it and then put what you copied back on it, and it gets weaker and weaker, more and more watery, but it’s actually exactly the opposite. I have the feeling that everyone wants to be in anticipatory obedience, so to speak, and show that they have understood what is given there and then dutifully implement it. I have nothing against a sense of duty. But in the end it leads to the fact that it doesn’t matter what is given, there is always another 10%, 20% added on top and the result is fatal. A student told me that a professor in the lecture hall shouted “Get yourselves vaccinated, damn it”. And then it was reported to me, where I then said: “Okay, but that’s not so that it occurs to him of his own accord”. He’s probably scared to death of catching the disease himself. It’s perfectly okay for someone to overreact out of fear. But it’s also a cascade of chain of a power behind it that leads to that, that fuels something like that. And that is now, what I have overheard, now not a colleague who, I say, is otherwise very loud. Many of those who are now or those who were not really noticed at all, you think about it, there are also those who are now really loud and strong and powerful or have been empowered by this cascade of power, which is multiplied more and more from the top down. That’s actually the impression that didn’t grow on my own, but that is reflected to me by colleagues, especially from universities.

Milena Preradovic: Now students whose only crime was not getting vaccinated. In the fall, they were barred from attending classes at many universities and then had to hear from many a rector that they should reconsider whether they belong at a university at all. And there was a lot of applause for that, also on the net, on Twitter, from other professors, etc.. What kind of world of thought is revealed there?

Prof. Maximilian Ruppert: Yes, it is simply a creeping, increasingly dominant obedience to authority. My impression is that when I hear something like that, and this is not the first time I’ve heard something like that, it hasn’t happened at my university, at least I haven’t heard anything about it, but it has certainly been reflected to me at other institutions. And I already have the feeling that an obedience to authority is being created here, whether this is done consciously or unconsciously. I couldn’t care less. The result is fatal and I realize that. One must function and that from childhood, it is then everyone at the university even further also. One has the task to function. Don’t think for yourself, don’t think in any way, I almost said lateral thinking. That’s a dirty word today. In the past, a large Bavarian automobile company put up posters saying “lateral thinkers wanted. You don’t want to hear about that anymore. Yes.

Milena Preradovic: Who was that? BMW or what?

Prof. Maximilian Ruppert: And all the suppliers and so on in the industry are also doing the campaign. And behind their backs, the employees complain and say “This is unbearable”, you can’t step out of line at all anymore, I say so. That is the result. This has nothing to do with the university alone. But as you mentioned earlier, I am fully convinced that the university should be the protected space. And that’s why university professors or university lecturers are actually civil servants, because this civil service protects you from being dependent on industrial money, from being independent, from being able to express your opinion freely, from being able to, in plain German, to throw one’s weight around. Perhaps rashly, not yet proven. In science, this is called setting up a hypothesis and then it needs a protected space for it, because every hypothesis is not yet tested at the beginning and how did Albert Einstein, you can’t put it better, how did he say it? If there is not a scandal at the beginning of an idea and it is ultimately badmouthed, then it will never become an innovation.

Prof. Maximilian Ruppert: Yes, and he’s damn right about that. And I’m worried that at just technical universities and colleges like him, we won’t even get to innovation anymore if we continue like this. Because I’ve never seen, please tell me a technical achievement, a social achievement, a philosophy, a new way of thinking that has come about by conforming and marching in lockstep exactly what you’re given, this lockstep. It has always been the opposite. One violates the same step, one disturbs the same beat, one makes a new melody, to speak in a nation of musicians, poets and thinkers. You make something new and everyone says “Boah, what’s that for a Schmarren?” one would say perhaps in Austria. Or a Schmäh in Vienna. Greetings to Vienna. But at the beginning it causes irritation at the very least. And that’s what I always say, that’s what I’ve also said in my almost twelve years as a managing director in medium-sized companies and in technical development: “Don’t give up when the customer, when you yourself are unsure,” when your colleague says “Wow, what’s that? That’s really weird, then keep at it, then this could really become something great”.
Milena Preradovic: Just such a horse with a motor. What a nonsense. Was once incredible, or the earth is round….

Prof. Maximilian Ruppert: I’m an engineer. The word engine is in there. Engine, if you think about it. Karl Benz. He had two things. He was crazy, I have to say, in the best sense of the word. And he had his wife, Bertha, who probably always said to the neighbor, “My Karli, he’s just spinning and he’s just spinning a bit and crashing loudly, but let him keep on spinning, he’ll make something clever out of it. And she has had the courage, climbed on the thing and went off, he said: “wow that works! So today he wouldn’t have a chance with the Cancel Culture, if you say that in new Bavarian, he wouldn’t have a chance. But he broke every law. Karl Benz broke every law. He probably would have broken some, I don’t know, Corona rules, so that he could go outside somewhere and continue to work on his strange piston, which moves vertically by explosion, such a lunatic, he blows up something and moves like this and then he wants to drive in that direction. How crazy is this idea? And now we are going by car.

Milena Preradovic: So can you generally say that innovations never come from conformists, but actually always from non-conformists?

Prof. Maximilian Ruppert: Yes. I also have a lecture in the Master’s course at the TH. And it’s about innovation management. And my question is always, I would like to have a homework assignment, the master’s students already look at that. Why does he give me a homework assignment? We’re not in school, I’ll do it anyway. But you know, I make the right jokes and say: “Until the next lesson, I want at least one innovation from everyone that has really technically improved the world, where you have done exactly what was specified. And then I ask the next hour: “and does anyone have a contribution?”, then they all look at me, I say: “yes! homework completed. I don’t have one either, I don’t know anything”. To this day, no one can tell me, is there any technical achievement at all, where you did what was predefined? No, the opposite is the case. We need that again. We need a climate where people say, I do it differently, simply because I want to do it differently.

Milena Preradovic: Exactly. And professors at universities who also do research are actually the right ones for that. As you just said, they are civil servants, and that should also serve to protect them. But now the question arises – third-party funding at universities is often discussed. How independent can you still do research at a university today? What is it like?

Prof. Maximilian Ruppert: Well, I won’t allow myself to make a comprehensive judgment, because I don’t do research at the university, but I can only say from my own experience before, Oh, that was a bit long ago, about 25 years ago, when I also did research at the university, and that was also a third-party funded project, and research was definitely possible there. As you said at the beginning, when you introduced me, it was at the Bundeswehr University and there were also really professional discussions that were sometimes loud and that was also desired, that was also okay. So I was allowed to experience research. It already worked, the third-party funding, the client, who also did research. That was, of course, a huge advantage as a physician, i.e. he was also interested in the subject matter and was open to results. So I perceived that the result was open and he said: “Well, you’d better do the basics again for a year, we want to know that well-founded and try yourself out in the area. Try out this software, there is something new on the market”. But then I say: “But that’s expensive again”.

Prof. Maximilian Ruppert: “Never mind, but we still need to know that. And now you present in Tel Aviv, then you present in Berlin Strausberg,” then I have in Thessaloniki, in Greece. I say, “Wow, isn’t that too expensive?” Because I grew up in a frugal household, and as a student I always had to turn over every penny and earn my own food. And then he said, “No, go there, go out in public, discuss it, knock one out,” and I said, “I’m still unsure. I don’t know at all whether all this is still so right, I haven’t really explored it yet”. At that time, I was not yet so self-confident and sure of myself, but I somehow felt that my university at that time had given me this leap of faith and this safe space, not only the location, but overall a research space, no matter where it took place. And I’m still grateful for that today. And when I tell people that, colleagues from universities often look at me and say, “We only do contract research now, the result is known. We have to confirm that”. So that’s how it’s reflected to me.

Milena Preradovic: Really? So someone comes and says, “Listen, this is the result. Here you have the money and now you prove it to me”?

Prof. Maximilian Ruppert: Yes, in principle, that’s exactly how it works. It really is like that. I know cases where it’s like that. I can’t say now that it’s generally like that globally, everywhere, I can’t imagine that, but how can I say it, I just know more and more people now, also through the new academy, who tell me the same thing and say they said in German, I’ll just quote: “I’m fed up, Max, I’m quitting now, it’s just too stupid for me. I have a different approach.” And then it’s: “Well, you’d better look there then, that’s not what we want”. A colleague of mine, for example, I’ve heard him question the topic of electromobility years ago. He simply said: Is it really that sustainable? Isn’t it more harmful to the environment according to the current state of knowledge? His questions alone led to criticism. That’s okay, criticism is good, but you noticed that he was actually left alone relatively quickly. Nevertheless, he continued his research and really proved that these electric cars are real environmental polluters as things stand today. That doesn’t mean that it will stay that way. But if you don’t bring something bad into the clearing now, so that it has a chance to become good later, then it will remain bad. And with electromobility, we’re all seeing that it’s not sustainable.

Prof. Maximilian Ruppert: Rare earths are used, and a lot of the process chain is made too early. I don’t want to talk about child labor. That is a completely different issue. But also the recycling of these things, the sustainability of the batteries, these are all “for the engineer, he’s not to be sworn at”. All solvable tasks. We engineers can get to grips with them. But we also have to be politically incorrect and put this stuff on the table and say, “At the moment, these are dirty machines, it’s impossible. We can’t even get the infrastructure right now. We have to. Do something.” But the feeling is that if someone questions something like that, that’s, maybe they’ll soon say electromobility deniers. The word “denier” is heard in all topics by now. And that’s something that really annoys me about everything. For example, one of our lecturers in the new academy, the Academy of Thinkers, is someone you accuse of being a climate denier. So when I look out of the window, I see a climate, that is, the weather over a longer period of time. So I can not deny the climate, he also makes no man. I don’t know any climate denier, but it is the club with which quasi every research approach is immediately beaten to death. And he is now giving a series of lectures on the physics of the climate.

Milena Preradovic: Hm, okay. But that sounds a bit like ideology beats science in the meantime?

Prof. Maximilian Ruppert: In the meantime, it’s turning over again. Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Science beats ideology. That’s the trend now, I say, our motto.

Milena Preradovic: That’s exactly where we’re talking about the new academy now. The academy of thinkers. The goal is a community that seeks knowledge and finds a protected place where the spirit of freedom is at work. Do I understand that correctly? Is this a counter-design to the universities?

Prof. Maximilian Ruppert: So counter-design is perhaps a bit too crass a term at this point. I can imagine that this could become a cooperation, if both sides are allowed and have the freedom. I simply assume once again that there is still ambition. Young people everywhere, old people everywhere, still have a love of freedom. I’ll just postulate that now. On that condition, I can imagine the following: That many people who have not yet found their bearings or perhaps want to reorient themselves in later years, come to us at the Academy of Thinkers, feel comfortable there, find a protected place to let off steam, to get to know each other, especially themselves. And then they find out, “Do I want to study at all? Is an academic career really the right thing for me? Or am I more of a hobbyist?” And that’s okay, too.

Milena Preradovic: Tell us a little bit. What is this academy of thinkers? It’s definitely an online academy?

Prof. Maximilian Ruppert: Exactly. It’s all online to begin with. But we will also meet physically. That is also important to us. And I sincerely hope that in a year’s time, at the latest, we will also be teaching here in the Academy House, where we can touch and see each other again, and that this will be the way it should be for science, for real science. The word “academy” was chosen deliberately, because it implies, so to speak, the claim to scientificity, and we have always been the people of poets and thinkers, as we have been recognized around the world, and we can become so again, we have a chance to do so. And the Academy of Thinkers wants to make a contribution to this in the academic, scientific field. That is our mission. And it’s not about conveying the truth here. We don’t have that either. So if someone says he has the truth, then he has not understood at all how anti-scientific his statement is. What is science? That is the search for the truth and the same will never be found. That is science. If one has found the truth or in good Bavarian “cleverness with spoons has eaten”, then you can actually stop. Then you can say that you have given up science. You have then hung it on the nail.

Milena Preradovic: But that is still exactly what is happening now: “Follow the science. We listen to the science.” That’s what’s happening now, isn’t it?

Prof. Maximilian Ruppert: But that’s total nonsense, I have to say. Anyone who parrots this kind of thing has not understood at all what science is really about. And this parroting must come to an end. You can’t get good grades and then titles for parroting science. That doesn’t exist. That’s why we don’t have any titles at the Academy of Thinkers, no diploma, no bachelor’s degree, no master’s degree, nothing that is recognized by the state in any way. It will probably be the case that nothing at all that we hand out will first cause irritation. And then I can already see the first graduate applying to a large automotive company and saying, “Yes, here I have something”. And then they say, “But that’s irritating,” and I say, “Yes, that’s exactly what Einstein said. And then there is the discussion. In the end, you will hire the lady or the gentleman because you can’t do otherwise.

Milena Preradovic: Very briefly, what can a student expect who enrolls at your academy?

Prof. Maximilian Ruppert: Well, first of all, an incredible breadth of different subjects. We have weekly lectures in the fields of politics and the humanities, as well as engineering, of course. But also media, media law, PR and journalism, but also a lecture that takes place every 14 days on the subject of the philosophy of music. There are regular lectures every week.

Milena Preradovic: And whoever registers can attend all lectures? Or how does that work?

Prof. Maximilian Ruppert: It’s important. The word “can” Ms. Preradovic, that’s a teaser because he can or she can, but doesn’t have to and probably won’t be able to do that, the offer. I would say that it is these 100% offers are not stemmbar for someone who can really also reflect, again calmly on himself. I guess just under 50% will be able to “pull in” the young people. I learned that from my children. I pull myself in and I say okay, in the past you attended a lecture, today you pull yourself in. All right, so I think you’ll be able to cope with just under half of it. But that is also exactly the goal, that one really also I say it now times so directly, so a young person or also older are not excluded, which you would like to feel perhaps thereby by our study generale young. Cordially welcome. But that they say wow, now I have to decide, I have to get a taste of everything and then I have to find myself. I have to think about what I enjoy doing. And what is it when you enjoy something? I think we can both confirm that, we can tell everyone. When I have fun doing something, then I know I have talent. And when I have talent, it’s more fun. They are clearly identical twins, talent and fun. And you have to discover that first.

Milena Preradovic: And that’s it, a kind of guidance for young people?

Prof. Maximilian Ruppert: That’s exactly what gives orientation. So in the best case, it will be so that someone knows, okay, now I know what I enjoy, that’s what it’s all about. And of course I also have talent and then it can happen, that’s what I meant by maybe even a kind of symbiosis, also with the current institutions, that people then say, okay, now I know what I want. I’m now studying physics at the Technical University or something, that could be anyone.

Milena Preradovic: Is it still possible to register now for the summer semester?

Prof. Maximilian Ruppert: Yes, exactly. The summer semester starts with the kick-off week already next week on April 25. I also have a lecture called “World of Engineers” which starts on May 2, on Monday. And as I said, the first week is our last week in April, which is meant to be a nice time to groove in and mentally arrive, with lots of information events, including the start of the first lecture series. You always have a lecture series on Monday and Wednesday evenings on very different topics and with very different lecturers.

Milena Preradovic: That’s exactly who I wanted to come to. What kind of people do you have teaching? I assume free thinkers?

Prof. Maximilian Ruppert: I assume so, because otherwise the ladies and gentlemen would not have found their way to us. Absolutely right. But they are not only free thinkers themselves, but they also enjoy it and have heartfelt joy in it. When students also confront our lecturers with their free, revolutionary, lateral proposals and thoughts in the lectures and look forward to this dialogue, then I and the colleagues lecturers, also look forward to it very much.

Milena Preradovic: Okay, so you can register on your site. The academy of the thinkers.de. It’s also under the video in the description. There you can register for a Studium Generale. How much does that cost, by the way?

Prof. Maximilian Ruppert: We have different rates. The normal rate is 450 € per semester. But if someone says okay, I can’t afford that, then the reduced rate is €250 per semester. If someone says I can’t afford that either, then please just put it in the motivation letter, by the way, that’s the most important thing for us. We’ll look at the grades, we have to, but we don’t really look at them. Yes, but the letter of motivation is important to us. And we will read it carefully and value it, reflect on it. And not just me alone, for God’s sake, I’m part of a large or powerful team, yes, also in this academy at the start. And if someone says that I can’t afford it, then they definitely won’t be turned away. For us, it’s not about taking money out of people’s pockets. We do it all voluntarily. It’s really the case that at the moment we don’t have any sponsors, but that really, my own pocket, my partner’s pocket finances the whole thing at the start. And of course we have to cover the costs. And it’s also important that the, that the infrastructure is really on a good footing. And you have to put that in professional hands. And that’s what I say, what costs nothing is worth nothing. That’s just the way it should be! So you can talk to us about anything, no one is turned away. The only point that is perhaps still important is that you have to have a Matura, as they say in Austria, or a vocational school or high school, so you have to be able to prove that you have a university entrance qualification, which is important to us. We have there namely already high academic level and we have, what I will wait at the beginning, doziert there. There are professors, doctors, but there are also people who have not chased after a title, but who represent their field with passion and expertise. It’s a very diverse mix. You probably put it correctly. All of them are probably people who love free thinking.

Milena Preradovic: Super exciting, Prof. Ruppert. Thank you very much for this digression in free thinking. Thank you for being there. Toi, toi, toi for the academy.

Prof Maximilian Ruppert: Thank you very much as well. Yes.

Milena Preradovic: Well, guys, maybe this is the way out. Alternative academies and schools, alternative ways of learning, new ways to establish freedom of expression, even if only in a closed space for now. Or maybe students and professors will stand up united for free thought at free universities. We will see how it goes on. Have a good time. See you soon.

    Liebe Milena,
